USED MISSELSES IN OPERATION SINDOOR

                        Operation Sindoor

Why did India strike Pakistan?

The missiles were India’s response to the deadly April 22 attack on tourists in Indian-administered Kashmir in Pahalgam, during which 26 men were killed

                                       SCALP

The **SCALP** (Système de Croisière Autonome à Longue Portée, "Long-Range Autonomous Cruise Missile System") is a **stealthy, long-range, air-launched cruise missile** developed by France and the UK. It is known as **Storm Shadow** in British service and has been widely used by NATO allies and partner nations. Here's a detailed breakdown:

### **Key Features & Capabilities**

1. **Range**:

   - **250–560+ km** (155–350+ miles), depending on the variant and flight profile. Recent upgrades (e.g., SCALP-EG) extend this further.

2. **Guidance**:

   - **INS/GPS** (Inertial Navigation System + GPS) for mid-course navigation.

   - **TERPROM** (Terrain Profile Matching) for low-altitude terrain-following flight.

   - **Infrared homing** + **target recognition** for terminal guidance, enabling precision strikes.

3. **Warhead**:

   - **450 kg (1,000 lb) BROACH tandem-charge warhead**: Designed to penetrate hardened targets (bunkers, command centers, infrastructure) before detonating internally.

4. **Stealth**:

   - Low-radar-signature design and terrain-hugging flight to evade enemy air defenses.

5. **Launch Platforms**:

   - Integrated with fighter jets like the **Rafale**, **Eurofighter Typhoon**, **Mirage 2000**, and **F-35 Lightning II** (planned for UK Storm Shadow integration).

### *Operational History**

- **Iraq War (2003)**: First combat use by UK RAF Tornados.

- **Libya (2011)**: Used by French and British forces against Gaddafi regime targets.

- **Syria (2015–2018)**: Deployed by France against ISIS strongholds.

- **Ukraine (2023–present)**: France supplied SCALP missiles to Ukraine for strikes against Russian military infrastructure (e.g., bridges, airfields, command posts). The UK provided Storm Shadow missiles earlier in 2023.

HAMMER GLIDE BOMB

                                           Why "HAMMER Glide Bomb"?

  • HAMMER stands for "Highly Agile Modular Munition Extended Range" (a NATO-style acronym).

  • The term "Glide Bomb" refers to its ability to glide to targets using wings/booster systems after release.

  • "Glade" might be a misspelling or confusion with "glide," though some sources use "Hammer" colloquially.

Strategic Importance

  • Cost-Effective: Converts unguided bombs into precision weapons at a fraction of the cost of missiles.

  • Standoff Capability: Allows aircraft to strike targets from beyond the range of most air defenses.

  • Versatility: Effective against both stationary and mobile targets in urban or battlefield environments.
